This Montessori at Home Preschool Plan is a loosely formed outline of the lessons we hope to cover next year for Little Bee at 4-5 years old. Please visit, Montessori Inspired Homeschool Preschool Plans (3-4 years), for a detailed outline of the unit studies we did previously and our Montessori homeschool goals using the NAMC manuals.
Please note that this preschool plan is fluid and will change to “follow the child” and for what works best for our home life. This preschool plan will also incorporate practical life activities as part of our daily learning. A part of this series is a list of 100+ Practical Life Skills with free printable check list.
“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”

Monthly Themes for Montessori at Home Preschool Plans
*As we complete each lesson in this outline, I will add a live link. Please note that this preschool plan is fluid and will change to “follow the child” and for what works best for our home life.
“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.”

Preparation of the Environment with Unit Studies
"Before elaborating any system of education, we must therefore create a favorable environment that will encourage the flowering of a child's natural gifts. All that is needed is to remove the obstacles. And this should be the basis of, and point of departure for, all future education. The first thing to be done, therefore, is to discover the true nature of a child and then assist him in his normal development."
Maria Montessori
I believe in preparing the environment for my child by incorporating unit study themes into our homeschool plan. I do not push Little Bee to do these themed activities. I set them up and show him the work, he can choose to do the work or not. If he shows no interest, then we put the work away and bring it out at a later time. However, my homeschooled child loves when I take the time to prepare new information for him and also spending quality time with him. Please note that our plan is a homeschooling plan. This is different than Montessori in the classroom or Montessori at home while the child attends a Montessori (or other) school.
"The child can only develop fully by means of experience in his environment. We call such experience 'work'."

Just to clarify… I notice you have a couple of topics for each month that you cover but how do you actually do that each month? For example, how much time/how many days a week do you work on each topic?

Hello 🙂
A lot has changed since I wrote this post. My son is now in Montessori school Tuesday through Friday. He is home every Monday. Now we only do one theme a month and do this this theme work on Mondays. When I wrote this planner, my son was at home full time and we would do one theme a week unless it was a more comprehensive theme – we allowed ourselves the freedom to work on it longer or as my child showed interest. I created a homeschool unit study planner – https://www.mamashappyhive.com/free_printables/homeschool-unit-study-weekly-planner/ to help plan each theme week. For example, if the theme for the week was birds – we would spend an hour or two each (week) day on this theme. If we loved the theme, we may continue to study it into the next week (week two). For example, Monday – What is a bird? Types of birds, Tuesday – Life-Cycle of a Bird, Wednesday – Eggs & Nests, Thursday – Nature Observations & Journaling, Friday – Review. I hope this helps. Take care!
