Montessori Shelves – Things That Go

*This blog contains affiliate links that I love and enjoy (see disclosure policy.)

I'm excited to share a new theme on our Montessori shelves this week. I found these shelves at IKEA to serve as a play space in our living room for Little Bee. He has been fascinated with trucks and can't get enough of talking about, looking at, and touching trucks. So I set up a theme on our Montessori shelves about "Things That Go!" to celebrate this love and devotion for the big rig.

This last week, we had a big truck deliver our brand new washer and dryer. Little Bee was glued to the window eye balling this fantastic truck during the entire delivery! I love how he is holding on securely with both hands and standing on tippy toes to take in all this visual excitement! Side note: I am in heaven with these amazing machines, since this is the FIRST time I have ever owned a new set.

The three trucks in this picture are Little Bee's favorite vehicles that go. The "real" garbage truck comes every Monday morning and Little Bee eagerly awaits its arrival. Little Bee has very sharp hearing and he can hear the truck approaching before I even notice! He also loves to stare out the window when riding in the car to visually spot a school bus or fire truck. When he sees one, he always lets me know with loud excited squeals and gestures!

Displayed on Little Bee's Montessori shelves are several of his favorite books about trucks, tractors, trains, and diggers.

www.mamashappyhive.comIn the picture below, I framed three pictures of vintage cars/trucks that I found at the Goodwill. I purchased the black frames at Michaels and took the glass out of the frames so that Little Bee could handle them. He loves to place all three picture frames into a pile and then he has a system where he sorts (maybe by color) the pictures to place back on display on the shelves.

These Montessori shelves are a wonderful hands-on play space for Little Bee to independently enjoy for hours at a time. Do you have a theme that your child adores?

I love the pictures of Little Bee on his tip toes spying on the truck that was delivering the washer and dryer. Too cute! By chance, is there a “Touch a Truck” experience in your town? We have one every couple of months. I think Little Bee would love it!

I love your ideas about changing around play areas based on a theme and what Little Bee is loving at the moment. You’re so clever!!! Pinned!

Trucks is always a favorite theme in our house! I love how easy it is to find real life extensions.

And I also LOVE your new shelves! We don’t live near an Ikea, but if we did I’d get some of those for our play room.

I have all boys so trucks were very big here back in the day. And now my teenager wants a real truck! Miss the days when toy trucks were enough.
